077: High Life

img_20160317_143736-01.jpegWe spent the afternoon at Solaire to see how the other half lives. What’s to say? Casinos, big spenders, gambling lords, and slot machine zombies are a whole other world, and a mildly repulsive one at that. Still, it’s fascinating to see the directions in which society expands.

No, we didn’t gamble, we just had tea at their Oasis cafe. K– ordered scones and Earl Grey, J– ordered onion rings (!), and Emily ordered a sugar-free cake. I mooched off of them, cheapskate that I am.

Lunch was at Hizon’s. The restaurant is famous for being the hangout of the late comedian Dolphy. The whole vibe of the place is right out of the late 1970’s and early 1980’s, a lot of marble and wooden paneling, and a little dim in the lighting. We ordered ox tongue, hamburger steak, and tangigue steak. Excellent food, though a little pricey for what it was.

Traffic to the airport was horrible. We were literally inching our way forwards. From Solaire we were supposed to go to Resorts World to check out their restaurant — a Lim trip is almost always about food — but since traffic was so bad we decided to go to the airport instead. It was a good call. We got in just at the prescribed two hours before the flight.
